How to Clean Shoes with a Magic Eraser – Ultimate Guide

Magic Eraser is famous for cleaning around the kitchen, bathroom, and those places with tough stains and scum.

Not surprisingly, people started using magic erasers to clean other tough surfaces. One such surface is your shoe! But how well does this work?

Can A Magic Eraser Clean Shoes

Yes, a Magic Eraser can be used to effectively clean your shoes, especially white shoes or white parts of shoes.

The Magic Eraser is made of a Melamine sponge which activates when exposed to water and begins to work almost like sandpaper. It physically removes dirt and grime from the surface of the shoes.

However, it is recommended that you only clean the white parts of your shoes or white shoes with a Magic Eraser. The intense action of the Magic Eraser may result in the dyed part of the shoes bleeding, fading, or becoming scratched. You should also avoid cleaning high-gloss leather shoes with a Magic Eraser as it can scratch the surface of the shoes.

How To Clean Shoes With A Magic Eraser

Before you attempt to clean your shoes with a Magic Eraser make sure to check the material of your shoes and the cleaning instructions. If your shoes are suitable for this cleaning method, here is what you can do:

  • Use a dry brush and gently remove as much dust, dirt, and residue as you can.
  • Remove your laces (if present) and take out the soles if necessary.
  • Grab your Magic Eraser and soak it well.
  • Squeeze out the excess water and start gently scrubbing the white parts of your shoes in circular motions until you have scrubbed all over the relevant areas.
  • If you want to clean the colored parts of your shoes, test a small, inconspicuous area (like under the tongue) to make sure the Magic Eraser will not damage the fabric or color of the shoes. If they withstand the cleaning, you can clean all over the shoes.
  • When finished, take a clean cloth and wipe off any residue from the shoes.
  • Let your shoe air dry completely.
  • You may wash your laces and soles. Or you may use the Magic Eraser to also clean the soles. Let them dry separately.
